Note from the Roatan
Marine Park:Dear visitor please
help us protect Roatan's most valuable recourse the coral reef. When
snorkeling or scuba diving please
do not
touch or step on the coral as this will kill it and
do not
remove anything other than trash.
Do not
buy shells and pieces of coral such as sea fans or jewelry made from
black coral etc. Even though these items are widely available from
street vendors it is illegal.
Locals will harvest anything just to make a little cash today
disregarding the sustainability of their livelihood for the future.
