Roatan Mangrove Tour
The fishing village of
Oak Ridge is the starting point of the
Mangrove Tour. The mangrove guide is a local water taxi driver, and as
you sit in one of the dories (kind of a huge overgrown canoe, motored by a
lawnmower engine) you will see Roatan through the eyes of a native
. The mangrove tour stays in the calm water behind the reef, and you will
pass through the village of Oak Ridge and Jonesville before you head through
the mangrove. Some of the channels were cut by Paya Indians centuries
ago. If you allow enough time for your journey, you can stop at a favorite
hideaway - the Hole in the Wall Bar. It's worth the trip just to meet Bob
the owner but you're also likely to have the chance to talk to some local
folks and some colorful expats, all with many tales to tell.
we
visit the Hole in the Wall every Sunday for their delicious all you can eat
bar-b-cue.
