The Instructor Development Course
IDC here at
Subway in Roatan offers small classes each
month
directly followed by an Instructor Examination either on Roatan or
on the neighbour island Utila. Our IDC includes;
airport/ferry transfers, lunches during the course, and
accommodation. After completing the IDC we offer
Instructor Internships at a variety of dive centres on Roatan. This
helps new Instructors gain experience, a work reference and
employment. In 2007 over 80% of the Instructors hired on Roatan came
from our programs.
Our
IDC (Instructor Development Course) program includes the Emergency
First Response Instructor rating and is run over 12 days. As
announced in January this year EFR Instructor is now required for
all new PADI Instructors. The IE’s (Instructor Examination) are held
either here on Roatan or on nearby Utila. We have small classes and
plan for lots of time for additional practice. Our level of
preparation will increase your ease of learning – we expect you will
even have fun! Contact
peter@subwaywatersports.com for more detailed information on
what makes our programs so successful.

Our goal is to
prepare you to work in a variety of situations and locales. We have
an expanded IDC curriculum to include the National Geographic
Program, eRDP use, knot tying, lift bag use and additional focus on
teaching beyond the Open Water Diver course. We want you to be ready
for the challenges of being an OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor)!
Prerequisites
To
attend an IDC you will need to have been a certified diver for at
least 6 months with a minimum 60 logged dives. You will also need to
be a PADI Divemaster (contact
us if you have a certification from a different agency), be at
least 18 years old, provide a signed and dated PADI Medical
Statement (available locally for $15) and show proof current
CPR/First Aid certification (within 24 months).
Materials

For the IDC
you will need all 3 versions of the RDP
(available here for $18 Table, $ 48 Wheel, $ 29 eRDP),
the IDC Crew Pack (available here for $375), the EFR Instructor
Manual $85, a bottom timer with seconds, a compass and 2 surface
